Karan Johar has never been one to mince words, and this time, he’s taken aim really straight at Bollywood’s growing obsession with “universes” and trend-hopping. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker slammed the crowd outlook gripping the manufacture post-Pushpa 2, Stree 2, and Chhaava, calling it creatively lazy.
“Pushpa worked, so now everyone wants to go ‘massy’. Stree clicks? Suddenly horror-comedies are back! But where’s the originality?” KJo asked, clearly unimpressed. He added, “Someone latterly asked me if I have a macrocosm. I said, ‘My universe is cinema itself!’”
Known for his flair, Johar is now switching gears from the director’s chair to hosting The Traitors, a psychological realness really present premiering June 12 on Prime Video. With a spicy contestant heel that includes Uorfi Javed, Karan Kundrra, Raj Kundra, Raftaar, and Maheep Kapoor, KJo promises drama and deceit galore.
