R. Madhavan on RHTDM Criticism: “Green Flags Are for Useless People”!

R. Madhavan has finally broken his silence on the ongoing debate surrounding Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM). The 2001 romantic cult classic, once adored for its love story, has recently faced backlash for its problematic themes—particularly stalking and deception. But Maddy isn’t buying the criticism!

In an interview with Mashable India, the Shaitaan actor dismissed the idea of evaluating the film through a “Western lens.” He scoffed at terms like “green flags” and “red flags,” calling them the “nikkamma kaam of nikkamme log.”

Madhavan defended his character, stating that social norms were different back in the day. “How else were men supposed to approach women in Mumbai back then?” he questioned. Comparing Indian and Western dating cultures, he argued that while Westerners meet in bars, Indians had different ways of expressing love—like following the girl home.

While some fans supported his take, others called out his remarks as tone-deaf. One thing is certain—RHTDM continues to spark debate, even 20 years later!
