The Office star brings his signature sarcasm—and a few eyebrow-raising shoutouts—to his big moment.
Ricky Gervais just received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and true to form, she made the event into a headline-grabber. As usual, the 63-year-old Office creator appeared in a black tee, jeans and without holding back.
While his fans cheered him and cameras flash, Gervais made statements that were as funny as they were controversial. Having joked about receiving his award, he introduced the names of dubious celebrities, including Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby and Fatty Arbuckle. Hold your breath (pun intended).
Even though only the case against Cosby resulted in a conviction (later changed) and the charges against Gallo and Greenberg were dropped, the fact that Gervais referred to them was seen as unusual. Still, if you’ve watched his act from the 2020 Globes to so many specials, you know he’s usually loud and unfiltered.
The actor made the ceremony informal, joking, “Well, I thought, there’s no point dressing up. Nothing fits my body anymore.” Even though he tried to be a little more serious, Gervais couldn’t help saying one last joke: “I’m not very skilled at being serious in my role.”
Most people either loved him, hated him or couldn’t help but notice him.
