Keerthy Suresh Reveals Mom Menaka Read Her Secret Diary and Found Out About Her 15-Year Romance With Antony Thattil

The actor opens up about her interfaith love story, family hurdles and the diary she believes was “burned”

CHENNAI: Every teenager’s nightmare came true for Keerthy Suresh. Her mother read her diary. And this was not just any mother. It was veteran actor Menaka, and the diary held the biggest secret of Keerthy’s young life.

In a recent chat with Curly Tales, the National Award-winning actor opened up about her 15-year romance with businessman Antony Thattil, the family tension over their interfaith relationship, and the day her love story came tumbling out of a notebook.

The diary incident

Keerthy said she started dating Antony right after finishing Class 12. When she was in college, her mother read her diary, which had everything about the relationship.

When confronted, Menaka had a simple defence: “I’m your mother; I can read your diary.”

The incident left a lasting mark. Keerthy said she loved writing but stopped keeping a diary altogether. She even joked that her mother might have burned it. Keerthy admits she wishes she could get it back. Somewhere out there, a notebook full of teenage love notes from a future superstar is either lost forever or sitting in a drawer.

“There were problems at home”

The bigger revelation was about her family’s reaction. Keerthy said that because Antony is a Christian, “there obviously were problems at home that I had to face.” It took a while for her to convince her family.

She also spoke about what made their bond special. “He had seen me before I became an actor,” she said. “That’s the best part. We kind of grew up together.”

That last point matters in an industry where relationships often start inside the spotlight. Antony knew Keerthy before the fame, the awards and the Bollywood debut.

A 15-year love story

Here is the timeline. They met through mutual friends in December 2009 and started dating in January 2010, when Keerthy was 17 and in Class 12. Antony is seven years older and was working in Qatar at the time. That meant a six-year long-distance relationship. Keerthy kept it private for years, and only a handful of people in the film industry knew.

She made it Instagram official in November 2024 with a Diwali picture captioned “15 years and counting. It has always been… AntoNY x KEerthy (Iykyk).” A month later, the couple married on December 12, 2024, in Goa, with an intimate ceremony that blended Hindu and Christian traditions. The ceremonies were traditional Tamil Hindu and Malayali Christian rites, attended by family and close friends.

Fun detail: the couple named their pet Nyke, a name chosen to signify their love.

Why this story is trending

There are three reasons this interview has spread so fast.

It is relatable. Plenty of Indian couples have faced family resistance over faith. When a National Award winner talks about it openly, it starts a conversation.

The diary story is pure gold. It is funny, a bit painful and very human. Social media loves moments like “my mom read my diary.”

It shows a celebrity love story built on patience. In an age of short-lived celebrity romances, 15 years of dating followed by marriage stands out.

How this affects Keerthy’s image

Keerthy built her career as the sincere, girl-next-door heroine, especially after her National Award-winning turn in Mahanati. Speaking candidly about family conflict adds depth to that image. Fans see someone who stayed loyal to a relationship, convinced her family and kept her privacy until she was ready.

There is also a subtle PR benefit. Because the story is told warmly and without bitterness toward her family, it reads as a reconciliation tale rather than a controversy. Her family is the sort the public already respects: her father, G. Suresh Kumar, is a film producer, and Menaka acted in more than 100 films. Keerthy does not paint them as villains, and that goodwill helps everyone.

Her career right now

Keerthy was most recently seen in the Netflix show Akka, directed by Dharmaraj Shetty. The crime thriller also stars Radhika Apte, Tanvi Azmi, Monika Pawar, Anshumaan Pushkar, Poornima Indrajith and Vishak Nair. It received mixed reviews. That puts some pressure on her next project, because her fans will want a strong follow-up. She also made her Bollywood debut with Baby John, a remake of Theri, so her career now spans four industries.

What happens next

  • More interview mileage: Expect the diary story to be recycled by fan pages and entertainment shows for weeks.
  • Career focus: After a mixed streaming outing, all eyes are on her next announcement, whether Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Hindi.
  • Married-life stories: Fans will keep asking about the couple’s life with Nyke and their families, which tends to mean steady social-media engagement.
  • The lost diary: If it ever turns up, it would be the most gossip-worthy artefact in South cinema. Keerthy herself suspects it is gone for good.

The bottom line

Keerthy’s story proves that sometimes the best love stories do not begin on a film set. They begin in a school corridor, grow through long phone calls across countries and survive a mother with a very curious eye. Fifteen years later, the diary may be gone, but the story it started is still being written, and this time it belongs entirely to Keerthy and Antony.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
