Aryan Khan Wins First Award as Director, Dedicates It to Gauri Khan!

Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan bags Best Debutant Director for The Ba***ds of Bollywood, wins hearts with an emotional, witty speech, and proves he’s carving his own path in Bollywood.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan has officially arrived — not as an actor, not as a star kid experiment, but as a filmmaker with his own voice, vision and confidence. Aryan has picked up his first-ever award for his directorial debut web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, and the moment has already become one of the most talked-about highlights of Bollywood this week.

While accepting the Best Debutant Director of the Year honour at the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards in New Delhi, Aryan delivered a speech that was equal parts charming, self-aware and emotional. In true Khan style, he mixed humour with heartfelt gratitude — and made it crystal clear that this win had nothing to do with Shah Rukh Khan’s legacy.

Instead, Aryan dedicated the milestone award to his mother, interior designer and producer Gauri Khan, leaving the audience smiling and his nani, Savita Chhibber, visibly emotional.

“Yes, I Like Awards… Just Like My Dad”

Aryan Khan walked onto the stage with quiet confidence, accompanied by his nani, and began by thanking the people who believed in him when he was just a first-time director.

“Good evening everyone. Sabse pehle main apne cast, crew aur Netflix ko thank you kehna chahta hoon jinhone ek first-time director pe itna bharosa kiya aur mere saath itne pyaar, mehnat aur enthusiasm ke saath kaam kiya,” Aryan said, drawing warm applause from the audience.

He went on to congratulate all the winners of the evening before addressing the elephant in the room — his famous surname.

“Yeh mera pehla award hai and I hope mujhe aur bhi bahut saare awards milenge kyunki mere dad ki tarah mujhe bhi awards bahut pasand hain,” Aryan joked, instantly lighting up the hall.

But what followed was the real mic-drop moment.

“This Award Is Not for My Dad. It’s for My Mom.”

In a heartfelt twist, Aryan clarified that while he may share his father’s love for awards, this win was dedicated to someone else entirely.

“But this award is not for him. This award is for my mom,” Aryan said, earning cheers and whistles.

Explaining why, Aryan added, “Kyunki meri mom mujhse hamesha kehti hain — jaldi sona, logon ka mazaak nahi udaana aur gaali-galoch bilkul nahi.”

The audience erupted in laughter as Aryan continued, “Aur aaj inhi sab cheezon ke liye mujhe yeh award mila hai.”

He ended his speech on a sweetly personal note: “Thank you for making my mom the happiest woman in the world. And I know aaj ghar jaake mujhe thodi kam daant padegi.”

As Aryan spoke, cameras captured his nani getting emotional in the audience — a moment that quickly went viral across social media.

A Quiet Win, A Loud Statement

Aryan Khan’s speech wasn’t just entertaining; it was symbolic. For years, he has stayed away from the spotlight, choosing silence over statements and work over appearances. Unlike most star kids, Aryan did not make his debut in front of the camera. Instead, he stepped behind it — a move many now see as deliberate, intelligent and refreshingly self-assured.

This award marks Aryan’s first public validation as a filmmaker, and the industry is taking note.

About The Ba**ds of Bollywood*

Aryan Khan made his directorial debut on September 18 with Netflix’s satirical series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. The show offered a sharp, unapologetic take on the Hindi film industry, exploring power games, image-building, hypocrisy and the harsh realities faced by outsiders trying to survive in Bollywood.

Starring Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba and Bobby Deol in lead roles, the series struck a chord with viewers for its bold writing, dark humour and meta commentary on stardom. The show also featured Mona Singh, Manoj Pahwa and Anya Singh in pivotal roles.

What impressed audiences the most was the series’ refusal to glamorise Bollywood blindly. Instead, it held up a mirror — sometimes funny, sometimes brutal — to the industry’s inner workings.

Critical and Audience Response

Upon release, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* received largely positive reviews, with many praising Aryan’s confident storytelling and control over tone. Viewers appreciated the show’s layered characters, self-referential humour and fearless satire.

Earlier this month, the series was also named IMDb’s Most Popular Indian Series of 2025, further cementing its cultural impact.

For a debutant director, these milestones are significant — and they’ve come without Aryan aggressively promoting himself or leaning on his surname.

The Khan Family Moment

The premiere of The Ba**ds of Bollywood* earlier this year saw the entire Khan family — Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan — come together in support of Aryan. While SRK has maintained a dignified distance from commenting excessively on Aryan’s work, insiders say the superstar is “immensely proud” of his son’s choice to build his career patiently.

Gauri Khan, meanwhile, has been Aryan’s constant pillar of support — something his award dedication only reinforced.

What’s Next for Aryan Khan?

While Aryan has not announced his next project yet, industry buzz suggests he is already working on new scripts and ideas. Sources close to the filmmaker say he is keen on continuing as a director and writer, exploring genres beyond satire.

One thing is certain: Aryan Khan is in no hurry to chase stardom. His journey so far signals a long-term commitment to storytelling rather than quick fame.

A New Chapter Begins

Aryan Khan’s first award isn’t just a personal milestone — it’s a statement. A statement that he is here to create, not just inherit. That he respects his lineage but refuses to be defined by it. And that sometimes, the quietest entries make the loudest impact.

As Bollywood watches closely, one thing is clear: Aryan Khan has taken his first confident step — and it’s only the beginning.
