Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor Receive Extortion Threats in Lawrence Bishnoi Gang’s Name; Bengaluru Techie Arrested

A caller allegedly demanded crores from Ayushmann and ₹5 crore from Tusshar Kapoor. Police suspect AI-generated voice messages and say the accused has no links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Mumbai: Bollywood’s growing security concerns have taken another unsettling turn. Actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor have reportedly received extortion threats from individuals claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, what initially appeared to be another disturbing chapter in the gang’s alleged targeting of Bollywood personalities has taken a dramatic twist: Mumbai Police have arrested a Bengaluru-based IT engineer in connection with the threatening messages.

The development has raised serious questions about the growing misuse of technology to impersonate criminals, frighten celebrities and demand money. Investigators suspect that the accused allegedly used AI-generated voice samples to make the threats sound convincing and exploit the fear surrounding the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to reports, Mumbai Police arrested 30-year-old Vaibhav Mishra, an IT engineer from Bengaluru, on November 3. An investigating officer reportedly clarified that the accused has no connection with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police suspect he attempted to take advantage of the heightened anxiety following the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai.

The case has now become more than a celebrity security story. It highlights how easily a notorious gang’s name can allegedly be used by an impersonator to create panic and attempt extortion.

Ayushmann Khurrana Receives Extortion Call Demanding Crores

Ayushmann Khurrana is the latest Bollywood personality to come under the shadow of an alleged extortion attempt. The actor reportedly received a call from a person claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and demanding crores of rupees.

The police began examining the threatening communication and matching the caller’s voice with available records to establish the identity of the person behind it. The development came shortly after Tusshar Kapoor received a similar threat, making investigators look at the possibility of a wider pattern of impersonation.

While the exact amount demanded from Ayushmann has not been publicly specified, the incident has added to the growing concerns surrounding the safety of Bollywood celebrities.

The arrest of the Bengaluru engineer has brought an important development to the investigation, although police will still need to establish the full extent of the alleged activity, including whether other celebrities received similar messages and how the accused obtained their contact details.

Tusshar Kapoor Gets ₹5 Crore Threat; Caller Posed as Harry Boxer

Tusshar Kapoor reportedly received an audio message from a person identifying himself as Harry Boxer, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller allegedly demanded ₹5 crore and issued threats to intimidate the actor.

The claim immediately attracted attention because Harry Boxer has previously been associated with threats directed at Bollywood personalities. However, the Mumbai Crime Branch’s examination of the audio raised doubts about the caller’s identity.

Investigators compared the voice in the threatening recording with existing samples attributed to Harry Boxer. The preliminary analysis reportedly found no match, suggesting that the person behind the message may have been impersonating the alleged gangster.

The police also examined the possibility that artificial intelligence tools had been used to generate or manipulate the voice. The subsequent arrest of the Bengaluru-based engineer has strengthened the investigation into alleged copycat threats.

Tusshar reportedly alerted the Mumbai Police after receiving the message. His security arrangements, along with those of his sister and film producer Ekta Kapoor, were also strengthened, according to reports.

The incident demonstrates how a familiar criminal identity can allegedly be used as a tool of intimidation, even when the person making the threat has no established connection with the gang.

AI-Generated Threats: A New Challenge for Mumbai Police?

One of the most disturbing aspects of this case is the suspected use of artificial intelligence to create threatening voice messages.

Earlier, extortionists often relied on direct calls, anonymous messages or recordings to intimidate their targets. AI tools have introduced another layer of complexity by potentially allowing someone to generate or manipulate audio that sounds convincing enough to create fear.

Investigators suspect that the accused may have generated voice samples using AI and obtained contact details of celebrities through online searches. An officer also reportedly indicated that the accused had sent similar voice messages to several other Bollywood personalities.

This raises an uncomfortable question for the entertainment industry: if a caller can imitate a criminal identity convincingly, how can a celebrity immediately distinguish a genuine threat from an impersonation?

For investigators, the challenge is not limited to identifying the voice. They must also trace the origin of the communication, examine digital evidence, establish the motive and determine whether the accused acted alone.

The case could also encourage more celebrities and their representatives to report suspicious calls immediately rather than attempting to handle threatening communications privately.

Tiger Shroff Firing Incident Put Bollywood on Alert

The latest extortion developments come against the backdrop of the firing incident involving Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area on October 18.

The 36-year-old actor was travelling in his car when shots were fired at the vehicle. Tiger escaped without injuries, but his driver and a bystander were reportedly injured.

Individuals claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang took responsibility for the firing. Mumbai Police subsequently named Anil Pandit, described as an aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, as a wanted accused in the case.

The investigation has resulted in the arrest of 13 people, including the alleged shooters. Police also investigated claims that the accused had conducted reconnaissance around the residences of several prominent Bollywood personalities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.

The incident changed the atmosphere around celebrity security in Mumbai. What was once largely associated with managing crowds, controlling fan interactions and protecting stars during public appearances has increasingly become a matter of assessing potential threats and monitoring suspicious activity.

Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan’s Security Arrangements Draw Attention

The change has been visible during some of Bollywood’s most familiar public appearances.

Amitabh Bachchan’s traditional Sunday interaction with fans outside his Juhu residence, Jalsa, recently attracted attention after the veteran actor was seen greeting admirers from behind a bulletproof glass enclosure. Abhishek Bachchan was also present, keeping a close watch on the arrangements.

The sight offered a striking contrast to the warm, close interactions fans have traditionally associated with the superstar’s Sunday ritual.

Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday celebrations at Mannat on November 2 also reflected heightened security precautions. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers, while the lane outside his residence was heavily guarded. Fans were initially not allowed to gather outside the bungalow.

Shah Rukh eventually appeared with his family to greet admirers, but maintained a considerable distance from the crowd. Instead of approaching the boundary wall or standing on the specially constructed staircase, he waved from the terrace.

For fans, the distance may have been unusual. For security teams, however, maintaining a controlled environment around a superstar’s residence has become an increasingly important consideration.

Ronit Roy Confirms Increased Demand for Celebrity Security

The concerns are not limited to a handful of high-profile actors. Ronit Roy, who also operates a private security company, confirmed that demand for celebrity protection has increased.

Speaking to NDTV, he said, “Yes, there has been a demand to increase security cover among celebs. It’s all preventive in nature. Everyone wants to be careful and feel protected.”

Security personnel associated with celebrity protection have also indicated that arrangements for their clients have been strengthened following the Tiger Shroff firing incident.

This could mean more detailed movement planning, tighter access control at residences, additional personnel during public appearances and closer coordination with local police. The exact arrangements will naturally differ depending on an individual’s threat assessment.

What Happens Next for Bollywood’s Security?

The arrest in the Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor threat cases could prove significant because it shifts attention towards the methods used in alleged celebrity extortion attempts.

If investigators establish that AI-generated audio was used, the case may underline the need for stronger digital verification procedures when threatening messages arrive. Celebrity managers, production houses, security agencies and law enforcement teams may increasingly need to verify the identity behind suspicious calls before reacting to claims of criminal connections.

It could also lead to more cautious public appearances, stricter security checks at celebrity residences and greater coordination between private security teams and police authorities.

For Bollywood, the immediate concern is clear: the threat landscape is no longer limited to physical attacks or direct intimidation. Digital impersonation can also create fear, disrupt routines and put pressure on celebrities and their families.

The arrest of the Bengaluru engineer is an important development, but the larger issue remains. As technology makes voice manipulation easier, identifying the person behind a threat becomes just as important as assessing the threat itself. Bollywood’s security teams may now have to prepare for a new kind of challenge, where the voice on the other end of the phone may not belong to the person it claims to represent.
