Celina Jaitly Marks One Year Since Leaving Austria With an Emotional Post: “This Is the Story of a Mother Who Continues to Fight”

The “Khel” actor shares her account of her divorce battle with estranged husband Peter Haag. These are her claims, and the legal fight is still going on.

MUMBAI: One year ago, Celina Jaitly landed in Mumbai with a single suitcase and a heavy heart. This week, on the anniversary of that journey, the actress took to Instagram to share a raw, emotional note about her ongoing divorce and custody battle with her estranged husband, Peter Haag. Everything below reflects her statements and legal filings, and the allegations have not been proven in court.

“One Suitcase and Heartbreak”

Celina began her post by recalling that on Oct. 12 last year she arrived in Mumbai on a ticket booked on a credit card, carrying one suitcase that held legal files, her late mother’s saree and heartbreak. She called it the most difficult decision of her life.

According to her account, in early September 2025 she was driven to a post office for what she believed was a 15th wedding anniversary gift, only to discover it was a divorce notice. At the first hearing, she wrote, the judge gave the couple until November to work toward an amicable separation.

What She Says Happened Next

Celina wrote that she pleaded for a peaceful separation, citing concerns for the children and her brother, and worrying about how she would pay for litigation. She says she was told to speak to his lawyers and even to work as a cleaner if she ran short of legal fees.

She further alleged that a legal notice claimed all her premarital assets, that she was told she couldn’t leave Austria after the divorce if she wanted access to her children, and that she had no access to the couple’s Austrian accounts. She also claimed to have found efforts to sell her premarital assets in India, and said she felt constantly under surveillance, with even ordinary parenting moments being recorded to portray her as unfit.

Celina wrote that she left Austria at 1 a.m. with the help of her neighbours and spent a week in a hotel, speaking to her children on video and phone calls. According to her post, all contact was cut off on the day she went to court to reclaim her assets. A year later, she says, efforts continue to take away her joint custody, and she alleges her children are being alienated and moved through different Austrian jurisdictions.

She ended with a message of resilience: she is still waiting for justice.

The Background

The post builds on a case that has been developing for months. Reports say Haag filed for divorce in an Austrian court in August 2025. In November 2025, Celina filed a domestic violence complaint in a Mumbai court through the law firm Karanjawala & Co., alleging cruelty, manipulation and abuse during the marriage, and publicly announced her own divorce petition in an Instagram post. She also sought Rs 50 crore in compensation and Rs 10 lakh a month in maintenance, along with access to her children.

At the time, her lawyer said that custody was her foremost concern, and that an Austrian court had allowed her one hour of telephone access to the children every day. Her lawyer also made allegations about financial control, which Haag has not been reported to have responded to in the coverage reviewed here. Haag’s side of the story has not been presented in this article, and he is entitled to respond.

Celina has also been fighting for her brother, a retired officer who has reportedly been detained in the Middle East since 2024. She has appealed to the Indian government for help, and mentions him in her post as another source of stress during this period.

The Actress Behind the Headlines

Celina Jaitly was crowned Femina Miss India in 2001 and made her Bollywood debut with Janasheen in 2003. She appeared in films such as No Entry, Golmaal Returns and Apna Sapna Money Money, and later stepped back from mainstream cinema after her marriage. She has often spoken about family, her military background as a soldier’s daughter and her advocacy for causes she cares about.

What It Means Next

Legally: The case spans two countries, with proceedings in Austria and a domestic violence matter in India. Cross-border family cases can be slow and complicated, particularly when custody and jurisdiction are contested. Courts will examine evidence from both sides, and outcomes can’t be predicted.

For the children: Custody cases are decided on the child’s best interests, and courts usually treat them with great sensitivity. Public discussions can’t replace the careful, confidential process that the courts follow.

For Celina’s public image: Her openness has drawn sympathy from fans, many of whom have posted messages of support. At the same time, courts don’t decide cases based on social media, so her legal team will rely on formal evidence.

For Peter Haag: He has the right to respond, and any statement from his side would add important context. A fair assessment of this case requires both versions to be heard.

For her career: There is no word on new projects. Celina has indicated that her priorities right now are her family and legal fight, and any return to acting would depend on how things unfold.

The Bigger Conversation

This story also highlights issues that go beyond one family: cross-border custody disputes, the challenges of litigating abroad, and the difficulty for survivors of abuse to seek help when they are far from home. It also shows the power, and the risk, of telling one’s story publicly during an active legal case.

What to Watch Next

  • Court hearings in India and Austria: The next orders could shape custody and financial outcomes.
  • Any response from Haag: His side of the story is still missing.
  • Updates on access to her children: This is the most important question for her.
  • Her brother’s situation: She has called for government help.

The Bottom Line

A year after leaving with one suitcase, Celina Jaitly says she is still fighting, and she wants the world to know it. The facts will be decided by the courts, not by posts. Until then, fairness, privacy for the children and patience are the most important things this story needs.
