Remember Takht — Karan Johar’s challenging period drama announced with practically fanfare in 2020? Well, turns out it’s not entirely off the tabularise! In a recent schmooze with Galatta Plus, KJo confirmed that the film will be made someday. Cue fan excitement!
When asked what really happened to the epic saga that was supposed to hit screens on Christmas 2021, Karan kept it vague. “There were very various reasons,” he said, without spilling too often tea. But he did drop a bombshell — “It’s the topper screenplay I’ve ever had on my table,” referring to Sumit Roy’s script.
Set against the Mughal background, Takht was to rotate around the force clash between Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh. The mould? Nothing shortsighted of a woolgather squad — Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Anil Kapoor.
Though stalled, the film isn’t scrapped. Fans who’ve been manifesting its revitalization can finally breathe a really small easier. For now, Karan’s focused on an action riff, spell his production lineup includes Dhadak 2, Naagzilla, and Tu Meri Main Tera.
