Chhaava director Laxman Utekar fires back at Anurag Kashyap’s claim that cinema is dying — calls the industry “evolving,” not toxic.
Filmmaker Laxman Utekar isn’t holding back! After Anurag Kashyap’s recent remarks about Bollywood being “toxic” and cinema “dying,” the Chhaava director has fired a bold shot. In a fiery interview with Mama’s Couch, Utekar said, “Balki unki sensibility nahi hai audience ka taste accept karne ki,” clapping back at Kashyap’s critique.
Anurag had earlier told The Hindu that he has left Mumbai and distanced himself from the industry, calling it creatively draining. But Utekar isn’t buying it. He reminded everyone of the massive success of films like Baahubali, RRR, Pushpa, and even Chhaava starring Vicky Kaushal — all proof that Indian cinema is alive and thriving.
Utekar added, “Audience har teen saal mein badalti hai. Phone pe cinema hai ab unke paas,” urging filmmakers to evolve instead of complaining.
He concluded with a mic-drop moment: “If Anurag wants to leave, nobody’s stopping him. Filmmaking needs heart, not helplessness.”
Let the Bollywood war of words begin!
