Nagabandham Box Office Collection Day 2: Jagapati Babu-Nabha Natesh’s Temple Thriller Earns INR 8.69 Crore Worldwide

Abhishek Nama’s mythological adventure opens on a promising note but sees a Day 2 dip; all eyes are now on Sunday for a decisive opening-weekend push.

The box office has found a new entrant in the mythology-meets-mystery space. Nagabandham – The Secret Treasure, starring Jagapati Babu, Nabha Natesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Murli Sharma and Mahesh Manjrekar, arrived in theatres on July 3 with the promise of ancient Vishnu temples, sacred rituals, buried secrets and a high-stakes treasure hunt. After two days, the multilingual adventure thriller has collected ₹8.69 crore worldwide, giving the film a decent start but also setting up a crucial Sunday test.

Directed by Abhishek Nama, Nagabandham has earned ₹7.44 crore gross in India and ₹1.25 crore overseas. Its India net collection stands at ₹6.45 crore, while the Telugu version has contributed ₹5.55 crore net so far. The numbers suggest that the film has managed to draw audiences in its home market, although the second-day trend indicates that it will need stronger word of mouth to turn its opening into a sustained theatrical run.

The film began its journey with a good Day 1 collection of ₹3.05 crore in Telugu. For a film without a conventional young superstar leading the charge, that opening gave the makers something to cheer about. The combination of Jagapati Babu’s screen presence, Nabha Natesh’s return to a major theatrical release, the intrigue around Nagabandham rituals and the film’s glossy temple-adventure pitch appears to have worked in its favour on Friday.

However, the momentum slowed on Day 2. The Telugu version collected ₹2.50 crore on Saturday, taking the two-day Telugu net total to ₹5.55 crore. A dip after opening day is not unusual, especially for a mystery thriller that relies more on curiosity than fan-driven celebrations, but the fall does raise a question: can Nagabandham convert its visually grand premise into enough audience excitement to grow through the weekend?

The answer may arrive on Sunday. Adventure thrillers with a spiritual or mythological hook often depend heavily on family audiences and viewers looking for a larger-than-life theatrical experience. If the film sees a jump on Day 3, it could establish a respectable opening weekend and give exhibitors confidence to retain screens through the first week. If Sunday remains flat, the makers may have to rely more on the film’s multilingual rollout and overseas support to keep the numbers moving.

Nagabandham enters cinemas at a time when mythology, ancient history and temple-linked mysteries are proving to be commercially attractive ingredients. Indian audiences have shown increasing interest in stories that blend faith, folklore, hidden artefacts and modern action. The genre offers filmmakers a ready-made atmosphere of suspense: old scriptures, forbidden chambers, sacred symbols and a secret that could change everything. The challenge, of course, is making the mystery feel fresh instead of simply dressing up a routine treasure hunt with religious imagery.

The film’s central idea is built around India’s ancient Vishnu temples and the enigmatic Nagabandham ritual. That gives it a wider canvas than a standard action thriller. It is not merely selling chase sequences or confrontations; it is selling the thrill of stepping into a secretive spiritual world. This positioning may prove useful beyond Telugu-speaking markets, which is why the film has been released in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.

For director Abhishek Nama, Nagabandham is an ambitious attempt to build a pan-Indian adventure property rooted in Indian mythology. The film’s early numbers are modest compared with the biggest event releases, but its performance will be judged differently. The project is designed as a content-driven spectacle, and such films can grow gradually if audiences connect with the world-building and recommend it after the first weekend.

Jagapati Babu remains one of the film’s biggest commercial assets. Over the years, he has developed a reputation for bringing weight and authority to intense characters, whether he is playing a commanding antagonist, a morally conflicted patriarch or a figure with hidden motives. In a story revolving around ancient secrets and danger, his presence immediately adds gravitas. The actor’s fan base across southern markets could also help the film maintain visibility even if its opening weekend remains uneven.

Nabha Natesh, meanwhile, gets a significant opportunity with Nagabandham. The actor has built a following through her lively screen presence and commercial appeal, but this film gives her a different platform. A multilingual adventure thriller can introduce her to audiences beyond her established Telugu base, particularly if her character has enough emotional and narrative importance. Her participation also helps the film appeal to younger viewers who may otherwise see the temple-mystery premise as a niche offering.

Anasuya Bharadwaj, Murli Sharma and Mahesh Manjrekar strengthen the supporting cast, giving the narrative a mix of familiarity and intrigue. Such films often live or die on their ensemble because every character can be a potential ally, betrayer or keeper of the secret. With a premise centred on hidden traditions and treasure, Nagabandham has the kind of setup where casting can become part of the suspense.

The technical team has also been positioned as a major selling point. Cinematographer Soundararajan’s work is expected to carry much of the film’s visual mood, especially in scenes set around temples, rituals and ancient spaces. Editor RC Pranav faces the equally important task of keeping the mystery moving without letting the mythology-heavy material become too dense. Music by Junaid Kumar and Abhishikth Kothapalli adds another layer to the film’s atmosphere, particularly if the background score succeeds in amplifying the tension around the Nagabandham legend.

At the box office, the film’s biggest positive is that it has already crossed ₹8 crore worldwide in two days. Its biggest concern is the Day 2 drop. The ₹1.25 crore overseas contribution is encouraging, but the domestic market will decide whether Nagabandham becomes a steady performer or fades after its opening weekend. The India gross of ₹7.44 crore shows that the film has found an initial audience, but it needs stronger weekday stability to build a meaningful total.

The next few days will also determine how the industry reads the film’s multilingual strategy. A simultaneous release in five languages can widen the market, but it also requires a clear promotional identity in every region. The title Nagabandham and the temple-based mystery provide an inherently Indian hook, which may help it travel. Yet audiences in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Hindi-speaking markets will ultimately decide whether the film feels like a dubbed release or a genuinely pan-Indian experience.

For now, Nagabandham – The Secret Treasure is neither a runaway hit nor a write-off. It is a film standing at the most important point of its theatrical journey: the gap between a decent opening and a durable run. Sunday collections will reveal whether the sacred-secret thriller has enough pull to turn curiosity into a box-office climb.

With ₹8.69 crore worldwide already in its kitty, the film has opened the door. Now it needs the audience to step inside.
