Nicole Kidman has never shied away from daring roles, but her latest venture in Halina Reijn’s Babygirl had even the director breaking a sweat! The Oscar-winning actress stunned audiences with her role as Romy, a high-powered CEO entangled in a steamy affair with her much younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.
In a candid chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Reijn admitted that instead of celebrating Kidman’s casting, she woke up in a panic. “I thought, ‘How are we ever going to find someone who can be her equal, much less dominate her?’” the filmmaker confessed. The answer? Harris Dickinson. Despite his self-doubt, Reijn was convinced he was perfect for the role after watching Triangle of Sadness and Beach Rats.
Kidman had nothing but praise for her co-star, calling him “brilliant” and predicting his rise to superstardom. The risk clearly paid off—Kidman bagged the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival and secured a Golden Globe nomination for her electrifying performance. “I love Romy. It feels like she’s been given a hug,” Kidman gushed.
Are we witnessing Kidman’s boldest role yet? The answer seems to be a resounding yes!
