A “100 times” joke, a viral clip and a very public meltdown later, Tollywood’s favourite couple is taking the trolls to the police.
HYDERABAD: Koffee With Karan has always served hot takes. This time the takes got so hot that the guests have gone to the cops.

The team representing Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, the couple fans call Virosh, has filed a formal complaint with the cybercrime authorities in Hyderabad. It targets online content the team describes as false, fabricated or misleading. According to the team’s statement, a representative submitted the complaint in person. It reportedly covers manipulated screenshots, impersonation, fake narratives and targeted harassment, all of which surfaced after the couple’s appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9.

How a Sofa Chat Became a Social Media Wildfire
It all began at an airport. Asked by host Karan Johar who proposed, Rashmika revealed that she was the one who first raised the idea of marriage, telling Vijay they should get married while the two sat at an airport. Vijay’s reply was a playful challenge: ask him “100 times” first. Rashmika later clarified that she had brought up the subject over an entire year before they decided to marry in February 2026.
The joke did not land with everyone. A section of viewers felt Vijay’s remark came across as dismissive, and some read the exchange as Rashmika chasing marriage while Vijay hesitated. Another clip from the show, in which Vijay talked about the proposal he made after the wedding, also went viral and drew its own round of trolling. Within hours the couple’s mentions turned into a courtroom run by anonymous jurors.
The Couple Fights Back, in Two Very Different Styles
Vijay went first, and his post was short and blunt. He called Rashmika his best friend, his wife and “one of the most beautiful parts” of his life, said they were “gloriously happy,” and declared that if it’s the two of them against the world, so be it. He then signed off with a profanity-laced message for everyone else and added his full name, “Deverakonda Vijay Sai.”
Rashmika went long. Her Instagram note read like a monologue. She said she usually doesn’t address such things, but the frenzy felt “less like people having opinions and more like an angry mob.” She explained that the conversation was never about the number of times she asked. Vijay, “the thinker,” wanted time and space to be sure, while she is “all heart,” and they need both in each other’s lives.
She also took on the reels made “in the guise of concern,” thanking those women for the free advice but noting that they weren’t around when life got difficult. Vijay, she said, was and is. Her line “When did that become a bad thing?” about being obsessed with her husband is already making the rounds on fan pages.
The Legal Move: Why Now?
The complaint is where the story shifts from gossip to law. The team says it respects free speech, opinions and criticism. Its stated line is between opinion and fabricated or misleading claims presented as fact. It has submitted links and supporting evidence to the authorities and hopes the matter is investigated “in accordance with the law.”
The statement goes further. It asks that any deliberate, coordinated or paid campaigns be addressed if established by evidence. It also says each instance of publishing, reposting or amplifying potentially unlawful content can be examined separately, and that appropriate legal remedies will follow where necessary. The team stresses this is not an attempt to muzzle genuine criticism but a request for accountability, and it urges users not to pass off speculation as fact.
This isn’t Vijay’s first trip to the cyber cell. In April 2024, his team approached the Cyberabad Police over what it called orchestrated negative campaigns around his film Family Star. Earlier, a complaint from his team over false rumours spread on a YouTube channel led to an arrest by Hyderabad’s cybercrime police. The pattern is clear: Team Deverakonda doesn’t just tweet back, it files paperwork.
What This Means for Vijay and Rashmika
1. The narrative has shifted. The couple now has a “united against the mob” story, and fans love it. Vijay and Rashmika first teamed up in Geetha Govindam (2018) and Dear Comrade (2019), and their on-screen chemistry built a loyal base that is now rallying behind them. Rashmika’s heartfelt note is playing as authenticity, not defensiveness.
2. Image management is now a full-time job. Fan sentiment seems firmly on their side, but the “100 times” moment shows how a single sound bite can be stripped of context. Expect tighter media training and more controlled interviews from here.
3. Vijay’s closing line may be the real risk. The all-out defiance wins cheers from his base, but brand partners usually prefer calmer messaging. Endorsers will be watching whether the heat cools or the fight with critics continues.
The Road Ahead: Three Likely Scenarios
(This is our analysis, not confirmed fact.)
- Quiet investigation. Authorities will first examine the submitted links and evidence. Fake accounts and impersonators are the easiest targets, since they are the clearest cases of “demonstrably false” content.
- Warnings and takedowns. Platforms may be asked to remove manipulated screenshots. Smaller accounts may delete posts or post clarifications once they realise each instance can be examined separately.
- A chilling effect or a Streisand effect. The team insists it isn’t going after genuine opinions, and it will have to show that in practice. If the process looks like it’s silencing critics, the backlash could grow. If it stays tightly focused on forgeries and harassment, it may become a template for how stars handle coordinated trolling.
There is also an industry angle. Every big star is watching. If this complaint produces visible action, celebrity teams may file more such cases, raising the cost of pile-ons. If it fizzles, trolls learn that the threat is mostly noise.
The Bottom Line
Strip away the hashtags and the story is simple. A newly married couple talked about their courtship on a gossip show, and the internet decided it knew their marriage better than they do. Vijay answered with a middle finger. Rashmika answered with a manifesto. Their team answered with a police complaint.
Whether you see it as reputation protection or an overreaction, the Virosh saga has entered its most public chapter, and the real test is what happens once the investigation begins.
This story will be updated as the investigation develops.
