Aditya Dhar and Yami Gautam Reportedly Leave Mumbai for Himachal Pradesh, Trading Bollywood Buzz for Apple Orchards

After the “Dhurandhar” blockbuster, the power couple is said to have made their heritage home in Gohar their main base. They are not officially confirmed.

MUMBAI / MANDI: In a city where stars fight for the best sea-facing flat, one of Bollywood’s biggest couples is reportedly heading for the hills. Filmmaker Aditya Dhar and actor Yami Gautam Dhar have reportedly shifted their permanent base from Mumbai to Himachal Pradesh, according to a report by the Free Press Journal that other outlets have picked up. The couple has not officially confirmed the move.

Mumbai Out, Mountains In

Reports say the couple now splits time between Himachal Pradesh and Mumbai, and appears to be making the mountains their main home. The reason, according to the coverage, is a desire for a quieter life away from Mumbai’s constant public attention. They will still travel to Mumbai for film work, meetings and professional commitments, so this doesn’t sound like a dramatic exit from the industry. It sounds more like a lifestyle choice: Himachal as home, Mumbai as workplace.

Until recently, the couple lived in a spacious apartment in Khar West. Some reports say they had been renting it for a long time, while one suggests they may have bought it after Dhurandhar‘s success.

The Gohar Home With a Story

The move may be less surprising than it first looks. Yami was born in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, and has had a deep bond with the state for years. Before her marriage, she bought a 100-year-old heritage house and a 25-acre plot in Gohar, in the Mandi district.

The wood-and-stone home is surrounded by organic kitchen gardens that reportedly grow apples, potatoes, plums and ginger, along with orchards. It’s also the place where Yami and Aditya got married in June 2021 in an intimate ceremony with about 20 guests. Yami said at the time that the couple wanted something simple and private, and she wore her mother’s sari for the occasion. Reports say the property has been kept simple rather than turned into a showy celebrity retreat.

Why Now?

Timing is the juicy part. Aditya Dhar is riding one of the biggest successes of his career. Dhurandhar, his second film as director after Uri: The Surgical Strike, released on Dec. 5, 2025, and has made him one of Hindi cinema’s most talked-about filmmakers. He has since kept a relatively low profile, with one of his recent public appearances being the National Film Awards ceremony in Gujarat, where he and Yami were honoured for Article 370. Aditya received the award as producer, and Yami was recognised for her performance.

When a director reaches that level of fame, the noise around him tends to grow too. Stepping away from the Mumbai social circuit is a smart way to protect focus. The couple is also known for guarding their personal life: they welcomed a son in May 2024 and have chosen to keep him out of the public eye.

What It Means for Their Work

Does moving out of Mumbai mean slowing down? Probably not. Filmmaking today is far less tied to one city than it once was. Writing, planning and script development can happen anywhere, and meetings can be scheduled in blocks.

For Aditya Dhar: A calm environment may suit a writer-director who is known for intense, research-heavy projects. Having space to think, away from industry gossip, could even improve the creative process. His upcoming plans have included a previously announced mythological superhero film, The Immortal Ashwatthama, with Vicky Kaushal, and the quieter base could help him develop big projects.

For Yami Gautam: She has long been selective with roles and has built a reputation for strong, performance-driven films. Living near her roots may support that approach. She also practises organic farming, so the mountains give her another passion outside cinema.

For Mumbai: The reaction will be mixed. Fans may miss seeing the couple around the city, but their departure highlights a shift in how stars think about home. Many celebrities are looking for balance rather than staying locked into one address.

For Himachal Pradesh: Having a National Award-winning couple make the state their base boosts its image as a creative hub. It could draw more attention to local film locations and tourism, though that remains speculation for now.

The Privacy Factor

The biggest theme is privacy. The couple’s 2021 wedding was announced only after it happened, and they have continued to guard their family life carefully. In a world where celebrities often share every detail, Yami and Aditya’s low-key style stands out. Their move reinforces that choice and sends a message that you can be at the top of Bollywood without living in the spotlight.

The Questions Fans Are Asking

  • Will they officially confirm the move? So far, the news rests on reports, and no statement has been issued.
  • How often will they be in Mumbai? Work will still bring them back, but the frequency is unknown.
  • What is Aditya Dhar’s next project? Fans are eager for his next announcement after Dhurandhar.
  • Will Yami’s next role come with a mountain connection? Her home state clearly inspires her.

The Bottom Line

Whether this is a permanent shift or a split-city lifestyle, the message is clear. Aditya Dhar and Yami Gautam seem to value peace, privacy and a home that feels like theirs more than a Mumbai address. For a couple at the top of the film world, that might be the most stylish move of all.
