Shaktimaan Movie Controversy: Lalit Parimoo Questions Publicity Buzz, Backs Ranveer Singh Despite Mukesh Khanna’s Objections

As the Shaktimaan casting debate refuses to die down, Dr Jackal actor Lalit Parimoo hints at a publicity strategy while praising Ranveer Singh’s acting chops and raising big questions over the superhero film’s future.

The much-awaited Shaktimaan movie has once again found itself at the center of Bollywood gossip, and this time, the controversy has taken an unexpected twist. Veteran actor Lalit Parimoo, remembered by millions as the sinister Dr Jackal from the iconic television series, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding Ranveer Singh’s reported casting as India’s original superhero.

While fans continue to remain divided over whether Ranveer should wear the legendary costume, Lalit Parimoo has hinted that the repeated controversy itself could be a carefully orchestrated publicity strategy.

His comments have added a fresh layer of intrigue to one of Bollywood’s longest-running casting speculations.

Is The Shaktimaan Debate Just A Publicity Gimmick?

Speaking in a recent interview, Lalit Parimoo carefully avoided directly criticizing Mukesh Khanna, the original face of Shaktimaan, but suggested that the endless discussions may be serving another purpose.

According to the veteran actor, modern entertainment survives on headlines and social media buzz, and controversies often become marketing tools.

Without naming anyone directly, he hinted that repeatedly discussing the casting issue may simply be generating curiosity for a project that has remained under wraps for years.

His statement has instantly sparked fresh conversations among fans, many wondering whether Bollywood is deliberately keeping the project alive through speculation.

Mukesh Khanna Still Unconvinced By Ranveer Singh

The debate intensified after Mukesh Khanna recently claimed that Ranveer Singh personally met him for nearly three hours, hoping to convince him about playing the superhero.

According to Khanna, while Ranveer is undoubtedly a brilliant performer, he does not possess the face or personality that reflects the calm, trustworthy image of Shaktimaan.

The actor reportedly described Ranveer as someone who appears mischievous rather than spiritually powerful, though he admitted that the Bollywood star is among the finest performers of his generation.

The remarks quickly went viral across social media, reigniting fan wars over who deserves to play India’s beloved superhero.

Lalit Parimoo Has A Different Opinion

Interestingly, Lalit Parimoo doesn’t share Mukesh Khanna’s reservations.

The actor openly praised Ranveer Singh’s recent performance in Dhurandhar, saying that he believes the actor has enough talent and screen presence to portray Shaktimaan if given the opportunity.

According to Parimoo, acting ability should not be underestimated, and Ranveer has repeatedly transformed himself for demanding characters throughout his career.

His endorsement has given fresh confidence to fans who have long supported Ranveer’s potential casting.

But Can A Shaktimaan Film Match The TV Legacy?

Despite supporting Ranveer, Lalit Parimoo expressed skepticism over one crucial aspect—the film itself.

He believes recreating the emotional connection of the original television series may prove extremely difficult.

The classic Shaktimaan aired for hundreds of episodes and became a cultural phenomenon across India during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Entire generations grew up watching the superhero teach moral values while battling evil.

Compressing that legacy into a two or three-hour film could be an enormous creative challenge.

According to Parimoo, today’s audience has evolved significantly and expects visual effects and storytelling comparable to global superhero franchises.

Anything less than international standards may disappoint viewers.

Sony Pictures’ Grand Superhero Vision

The Shaktimaan movie was officially announced in 2022 when Sony Pictures revealed plans for a massive trilogy aimed at reintroducing India’s most iconic superhero to modern audiences.

The announcement generated tremendous excitement, with many expecting one of Bollywood’s biggest superhero spectacles.

Sony Pictures partnered with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited and Mukesh Khanna’s Bheeshm International to bring the ambitious project to life.

The teaser promised that after Hollywood’s superhero dominance, it was finally time for India’s own superhero to make a grand comeback.

However, nearly four years later, the film remains surrounded by uncertainty.

Ranveer Singh’s Name Refuses To Disappear

Although the makers have never officially confirmed the cast, Ranveer Singh’s name has consistently been linked to the project through industry reports and insider speculation.

The actor’s physical transformation, energetic screen presence, and versatility have made him one of the strongest contenders in fan discussions.

Supporters argue that his commitment to roles and willingness to experiment could help reinvent Shaktimaan for a younger generation.

Critics, however, continue to insist that the character requires simplicity, humility, and spiritual depth rather than flamboyance.

The debate has become one of Bollywood’s hottest talking points.

A Huge Business Opportunity At Stake

From a business perspective, Shaktimaan remains one of Indian entertainment’s strongest nostalgia brands.

If executed properly with cutting-edge visual effects and a compelling script, the franchise could generate massive revenues through theatrical collections, OTT rights, merchandising, gaming collaborations, and international distribution.

India’s superhero market is still relatively untapped compared to Hollywood, giving the project enormous commercial potential.

However, repeated delays and casting controversies also risk reducing audience excitement if official announcements continue to be postponed.

What Lies Ahead?

For now, the makers remain silent, Mukesh Khanna continues to defend his vision of Shaktimaan, and Lalit Parimoo has introduced a completely new angle by questioning whether the controversy itself is part of a publicity strategy.

Whether Ranveer Singh ultimately becomes India’s next superhero or another actor steps into the iconic role remains unknown.

One thing is certain—the conversation around Shaktimaan refuses to fade away. Until Sony Pictures finally reveals its cast and production plans, Bollywood fans will continue debating who deserves to wear the legendary costume and whether the superhero can once again capture the imagination of an entire generation.
