Sonu Nigam in Hot Water Over Kannada Song Comment at Bengaluru

Bengaluru’s music-loving crowd was left stunned after a comment by singer Sonu Nigam sparked massive backlash—and now, legal trouble. During a live concert at an engineering college on April 25, a group from the audience requested the singer to perform Kannada songs. Instead of embracing the request, Nigam allegedly made a controversial remark comparing it to the Pahalgam terror attack—an analogy that has now landed him in serious trouble.
On Monday, May 5, the Avalahalli police served a notice to Nigam, asking him to appear for questioning. He’s been booked under Sections 351 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, following a complaint by a Kannada activist. According to Superintendent C.K. Baba, Nigam’s comments were not only inappropriate but deeply hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas.
The Kannada Film Chamber has since come forward demanding a public apology and has vowed not to invite Nigam to any future events. Meanwhile, cops are tightening event protocols to avoid further flare-ups, even summoning the college management for questioning and reviewing CCTV footage from the night.
