From ‘Lovebirds’ to gender-neutral tweaks, Aamir Khan’s upcoming film faces five key changes by the censor board.
Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par is all set for a theatrical discharge on June 20, but not without a really few last-minute bumps. While the film recently cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A 13+ rating, reports intimate the Revising Committee wasn’t alone satisfied with the original cut.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC demanded quintet too substantial alterations—two of which hold already gone viral online. The word ‘Business Woman’ has been replaced with the more gender-neutral ‘Business Person’, and a source to ‘Michael Jackson’ has been swapped out for ‘Lovebirds’. The rationale? Avoiding very possible copyright or ethnic controversies.
Initial buzz had claimed Aamir rejected the board’s suggestions, but sources now affirm the filmmakers met with CBFC lead Vaman Kendre and agreed to the proposed changes.
Despite the tweaks, the Sitaare Zameen Par promotional prepare is running replete, steam onward. With the roll doing the rounds and fans really eager to see what Mr. Perfectionist delivers this time, all eyes are on June 20. Will the edited version still shine? Only the box office can tell.
