Saif Ali Khan Breaks Silence on Knife Attack: Reveals Why He Refused Wheelchair and Ambulance After Near-Fatal Incident!

In a candid chat with Kajol and Twinkle Khanna, Saif Ali Khan revisits the terrifying night he was stabbed six times — and why he chose to ‘walk it off’ like a real Nawab.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has finally opened up about the shocking knife attack that took place earlier this year at his Bandra home — and his calm, almost heroic response to it is leaving fans stunned. Appearing on the latest episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, alongside Akshay Kumar, the 53-year-old actor revealed he refused both a wheelchair and an ambulance after undergoing surgery, determined to show the world that he was fine.

The incident, which occurred on January 16, had sent shockwaves through Bollywood. Saif was stabbed six times by an intruder at his Mumbai residence and was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent spinal and plastic surgeries. The attacker was later arrested, but the memory of that night still lingers — not just for Saif, but for his fans and family.

Saif Ali Khan recalls the night of the attack

On the show, Saif described the harrowing experience in his trademark composed manner. “We walked into the hospital, and the emergency staff were half asleep,” he said with a wry smile. “I asked for a stretcher, and the guy offered me a wheelchair. I told him, ‘No, I think I need a stretcher.’ He still didn’t respond properly. Finally, I had to say, ‘Hey, I’m Saif Ali Khan. It’s a medical emergency.’ That’s when everyone suddenly woke up and chaos broke out.”

The actor’s understated humour about such a near-death experience had both Kajol and Twinkle Khanna in disbelief. “Hats off to you for fighting through that,” said Akshay Kumar, admiring Saif’s grit. “It doesn’t happen often — you’ve been a real hero, at least for your son and your family.”

Saif refuses wheelchair and ambulance after surgery

The Sacred Games actor revealed that even after spending a week in the hospital, he chose to walk out on his own two feet, rejecting both a wheelchair and an ambulance. His reasoning? Pure presence of mind — and a touch of star instinct.

“When it was over, I was told to go home in an ambulance,” he explained. “Someone said ‘wheelchair,’ someone said ‘ambulance,’ and I thought — why create panic? Why make it seem worse than it is? I could walk, even if it was painful. I wanted to show people, my family, fans, and the media that I was okay. So, I just walked out. That was the idea — to send a visual message that I was fine.”

But of course, in true Bollywood fashion, the decision sparked a mini-controversy online. Many speculated that the walkout was “staged,” while others hailed him as a real-life hero. Saif, being Saif, laughed it off. “There was so much feedback on that — people saying it was fake or real. I just thought, whatever helps everyone sleep better.”

Mama knows best — Sharmila Tagore’s reaction

Twinkle Khanna revealed during the chat that she later spoke to Sharmila Tagore, Saif’s mother, who had a very motherly take on the situation. “She told me that she insisted Saif go home in a wheelchair, but he wouldn’t listen,” Twinkle shared. “She said if he had just listened to her, there would’ve been no controversy.”

Ah, classic mother-son moment — even Nawabs don’t escape their mom’s scolding.

What really happened that night

For those who missed it, the attack took place in the early hours of January 16, when an intruder managed to enter Saif’s residence in Bandra. The assailant, who was later arrested by Mumbai Police, reportedly stabbed Saif multiple times before fleeing the scene. The motive remains unclear, though reports suggest the attacker had been stalking the actor for some time.

Saif was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency spinal and plastic surgery. He remained admitted until January 21, during which time his family — including wife Kareena Kapoor Khan — maintained a dignified silence. Fans flooded social media with prayers, making #GetWellSoonSaif trend for days.

Saif’s comeback: “Jewel Thief” and “Haiwaan”

Barely months after the incident, Saif bounced back to work — because, as he puts it, “the show must go on.” He was last seen in Netflix’s hit film Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, which released in April 2025. The film, directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, also starred Jaideep Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta.

The movie marked Saif’s stylish return to the thriller genre, and fans couldn’t stop praising his suave yet menacing performance.

Next up, he’ll be seen in Priyadarshan’s big-ticket film Haiwaan alongside Akshay Kumar and Saiyami Kher. The film is said to be a supernatural action drama with Priyadarshan’s signature comedic twist. Insiders say the duo’s on-screen reunion will be one of the biggest highlights of 2025.

Internet reacts: “Saif is the real deal!”

Social media was buzzing after snippets of Saif’s interview went viral. Fans praised his calm, grace, and unfiltered honesty. One fan wrote on X, “Only Saif Ali Khan can make a knife attack sound like a minor inconvenience — that man’s composed charm is unmatched!”

Another fan tweeted, “He’s a real-life hero. Not just for his family, but for every fan who looks up to him.”

Many even compared Saif’s resilience to his on-screen characters, especially Sartaj Singh from Sacred Games — calm under pressure, witty even in chaos.

The Nawab’s spirit lives on

Saif’s response to the entire incident — from his refusal to play the victim to his humour about it — perfectly encapsulates his personality. He’s royal without being arrogant, witty without being dismissive, and most importantly, strong without the dramatics.

Despite being one of Bollywood’s most seasoned stars, Saif continues to surprise fans — whether it’s his brave take on a life-threatening attack, or his ability to laugh about it on national television.

As Kajol aptly put it during the show, “You walked out of the hospital like you were walking a ramp.”

Saif just smiled. “That’s how a Nawab exits — on his feet.”
